A. Report On An Event
Report-Writing क्या है – Report शब्द लैटिन भाषा के ‘Reporter’ शब्द से बना है जिसका अर्थ होता है। ‘वापिस ले जाना’। अतः report का अर्थ है किसी गतिविधि या घटना का वर्णन उस व्यक्ति के पास ले जाना जो उस घटना के समय उपस्थित नहीं था।

Report का महत्व- रिपोर्ट किसी के द्वारा देखी या सुनी गई घटना का विवरण होता है। इसका हर क्षेत्र में महत्व दिन-प्रतिदिन बढ़ता जा रहा है। एक रिपोर्ट एक बड़े दस्तावेज के रूप में भी हो सकती है।

Report on Event लिखते समय निम्नलिखित बातों का ध्यान रखना चाहिए:
(a) Event’s name(b) Day, date and time
(c) Occasion
(d) Chief Guest / Chairperson
(e) Speeches
(f) Cultural programmes
(g) Prize distribution (if at all required) etc.
Report संक्षिप्त होनी चाहिये लेकिन शीर्षक व भाषा-शैली ऐसी होनी चाहिये जो ध्यान आकर्षित कर सके।

A well written report must possess the following traits:
- adherence to the specifications of report brief;
- analysis of relevant information;
- structuring material in a logical and coherent order;
- presentation in a consistent manner according to the instructions of the report brief;
- making appropriate conclusions that are supported by the evidence and analysis of the report;
Now, it is very important to follow a proper report writting format. Not to forget that format carries marks.
Tips to attempt a question on report writing
Here are a few valuable tips for you to attempt the class 12 English writing skills - report writing question in a better way-
- Make sure you use language which is suitable for the audience you are addressing to. Usage of complex vocabulary for addressing children is not advisable.
- Make sure you write in paragraphs.
- Practice previous year question papers.
- Read as many samples as you can. It will give you an idea as to how they are actually written.
- Read the question at least twice and highlight the important information. It is very important to understand the question and read between the lines. Albert Einstein once said,
"If you can't explain it simply, you didn't understand it well enough."
- Plan before you pen. Just make a list of all your important points on the rough sheet (last sheet of your answer booklet) so that you do not forget relevant points while writing. This also helps you in maintaining a sequence, which is very important.
- Presentation is very important.
- Make sure you double check for grammatical accuracy and spellings. They carry marks.
- Leave adequate number of lines between paragraphs to make it look clean.
- Underlining the main points is very important. But it is advised to do it after finishing your exam. Use a pencil and scale for underlining.
- Make small sentences. It restricts the scope of grammatical inaccuracies.

On Friday afternoon, Ratan Ram dumped both of his children, one by one, into the well. They died of drowning. Then, he too jumped into the well.
Later, when the villagers did not see him around for a long time, they started searching for him. After tracing the bodies, the villagers informed the police. Sources said that Ratan Ram was reportedly frustrated due to the prolonged illness of his wife and, therefore, decided to kill the children and himself. Locals said they were shocked that Ratan Ram could take such an extreme step.
SHO, Phalana, Chandra Shekhar said that the bodies were taken out with the help of the villagers. After the postmortem, the bodies were handed over to the relatives.

The district level girls’ Kabaddi tournament was held on the ground of the Govt Girls’ Senior Secondary School of the city. It was inaugurated by the Education Minister. Thirty teams from different schools participated in this tournament. Many exciting matches were played. All the girls were tall, well-built, lively and gay. The players played well. There was a big crowd of students. Some of the players became desperate and rash in this tournament but they were soon warned and checked. The tournament lasted for five days during which many interesting matches were played. The first prize went in favour of the most honest team.

They had guns in their hands. They entered the bank. They hit the guard on the head. He fell down. His head was bleeding. They threatened to shoot anyone who tried to raise an alarm. They locked the staff in a room. It is reported that they looted more than five lac rupees. Then they drove the car at a high speed. The police are trying to solve the case. But no clue has been traced out yet.

Such an incident of robbery took place in a compartment of the Chetak Express near Kishanpura. Two men got into the ladies’ compartment when the train stopped at the last station. They snatched ornaments from the ladies. The train was moving slowly. The ladies began to cry loudly. Someone pulled the alarm chain. The train stopped. The robbers tried to escape but some passengers showed courage. They chased the robbers and caught all of them. The robbers were handed over to the police.

A major train accident took place last night near Bapunagar. The Janta Express went off the rails and the engine and four leading bogies were completely smashed. Terrified passengers started jumping from doors. This added to the number of casualties. Men, women and children were crying in pain. Sixty people were killed in this accident. The people who were injured severely were taken to the nearest hospital. Those who had minor injuries were released after first aid while others were detained for treatment. The Government is trying its best to help the injured passengers. An immediate enquiry is to be conducted in the matter.

Jhunjhunu on Thursday earned the distinction of being the first smoke-free district in the state on “World No Tobacco Day”. Now, if any person is caught smoking at public places in Jhunjhunu, he or she would be challenged. The public places include railway stations, bus stands, banks, government offices, schools, colleges and other public and tourist places. The district administration has marked certain places where a person can smoke. A source said that as per the Control of Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003, every district should be declared smoke-free and the districts which are not being declared smoke-free are violating the Act.

The victims were shifted to the government-run Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital in Faridabad where the doctors said the retinas of the victims had been damaged and chances of regaining their eyesight were very less. Although the patients underwent the botched surgery six days ago, the incident came to light only on Sunday after the doctors of SD Eye Hospital confirmed the loss of eyesight. Four others, who also underwent the surgery at Amma Eye Hospital on March 22, are recovering at Shankar Eye Hospital near Guntur.

During her speech, she said that Dr S. Radhakrishnan realised the dedication and significance of teachers. She gave an example of Radhakrishnan who had a deep respect for teachers. That is the reason we celebrate his birthday as the Teachers’ Day. The principal of the school laid emphasis on the healthy relationship between students and teachers.
